Attitude to death as a psychological and pedagogical problem

Abstract

The paper raises the question of the importance of including the topic of death in the child’s upbringing system, which is a necessary condition for his spiritual and moral formation, the formation of a responsible attitude to life, and the acquisition of personal maturity. The question of the child’s attitude to death is considered in a cultural and historical perspective. It is shown that in modern society the topic of death is taboo in relation to the children’s subculture, which leads not only to numerous difficulties in cases of a child’s real contact with death, but also turns into serious distortions in the idea of the world order, devaluation of life and loss of its semantic basis. The attitude to death in the Orthodox cultural tradition is revealed; attention is drawn to the openness of the topic of death to the spiritual experience of a child, starting from an early age.
