Abstract

This article gives a review on symbolism and allegorical imagery of the «Corpus Areopagiticum». The author explores the basis of application of symbolism as well as allegorism in «Areopagitics», elements underlying symbolism and allegorism, discusses symbolical and allegorical terminology, special types of application of symbolism and imagery, researches the ontological and anthropological basis of application of allegorism, rebuilds the hierarchy for allegorical and symbolical images, and touches upon the question of the process of image interpretation.
