Jean-Claude Larchet is one of the most notable living orthodox theologian and patrologist. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Nancy and a PhD in theology from the University of Strasbourg. J.-C. Larchet is the author of thirty books and quantity articles in several scientifi c journals. His works have been translated into eighteen languages. In this article, the author examines and confirms the validity of the use of the theological legacy of the Sixth Ecumenical Council by St. Gregory Palamas and his supporters in the 14th-century debate over the distinction between essence and energies in God, emphasizing the particular importance of these arguments, stemming from their conciliar nature.
