Tradition and Continuity as a Core Concept of Russian Culture

Abstract

The article raises the question of the relationship between tradition and innovation in Russian culture. It is pointed out that in the reforms of Peter I, which affected Russian culture, and primarily the culture of the Church, there was no desire to eradicate the foundations of religiosity, but there was an idea of creating a kind of universal culture. With all the visible changes that significantly influenced the images of church architecture and art of the Synodal period, it is thanks to the powerful traditionalism (having its roots in the Byzantine epoch), that the church culture, being constantly updated, as a whole has not lost its identity and uniqueness.
