Abstract

This article is devoted to the analysis of archival materials related to the unique shrine of the Pskov-Pechersky Monastery “Caves Built by God”. Among the materials used in the article are analytical reports of supervisory bodies for the affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Soviet period. A review of these surviving documents allows us to draw conclusions about the policy of the USSR regarding the main Christian shrines, which were especially revered by believers. These archival materials are also valuable in relation to the assessment of the personalities of the abbots of the Pskov-Pechersky Monastery during the period under study and the situation in the monastery itself.
