On the philological trivium in ancient and modern world

Abstract

The article proposes a brief consideration of the problems concerning philological trivium (grammar/dialectics/rhetoric) in the tradition of Stoicism and St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo. The author finds necessary reviving such kind of integrated systems in humanities, taking into account modern realities and new achievements in sciences and scholarship. A general overview of such a model presented in detail in his recent book is proposed.

    Doctor of Philology, Associate Professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University, concurrently Professor at the Department of Ancient and New Languages of the Sretensky Theological Academy (SThA). The title of associate professor awarded by the Nominating Commission of the Educational Committee of the Russian Orthodox Church, was approved by His Holiness the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. Winner of the Makaryev Prize in 2023.
